DRAGON ART FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. Who does the artwork?
The artist responsible for the pictures in the gallery is John Cressman.
2. How do I get my own character portrait?
First, decide one character you want us to render. Next, browse thru the gallery and decide on the TYPE of portrait you would like to commission (BASIC, ADVANCED, etc) When you are ready to actually place your order, go to the ORDERS section and choose theADD ITEM button to order the portrait you wish to commission. Then choose the delivery method, either Electronic (I send you the final product via email in the form of a graphics file) or Priority Mail (I will print it out on my color printer on glossy paper and send it to you via Priority Mail - US Only). Once you choose the delivery method, you will be asked to verify your order. If everything is correct, you can either A) Hit the CHECKOUT button to go to the SECURE Paypal checkout area or B) Print out the order form and send it to me with a check or money order. I will not begin the commission until the check clears if you send a personal check. Once I have received your order I will contact you for your character information. ALSO NOTE: Please be as thorough as possible on your character description. Describe anything special (magic weapon, tattoo, jewelry, etc.) that you wish
the character to show. Please note, intricate or custom weapons are not included in any packages. Tattoos, insignia, etc. will be put on character/armor if supplied by the client.
3. Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept credit cards using PayPal. For more information or to sign-up for PayPal, checkout:
4. How long does it take?
It really depends on our queue and on the complexity of the image. Generally, it takes about 7 days or so from the start date PER character being rendered. Custom work or extras will also delay the portrait. Large party portraits can take much longer depending on the detail level.
5. What programs do you use to make these awesome portraits?
John uses a combination of several program: Poser 4 for the figures, Bryce 4 for the backgrounds and Photoshop to do touchup work and add special effects. John also uses a huge library of 3D models and textures that he's created, borrowed or bought from a multitude of places.
6. What games are you familiar with?
I am very familiar with Champions, Dungeons and Dragons, Everquest, Asheron's Call, Dark Ages of Camelot, Ultima Online, Baldur's Gate series, and many other newer titles. I am passingly familiar with MANY other roleplaying games.
7. What size and format is the final image?
The final image is sent as a 800x600 JPG, unless otherwise specified.
8. Can you render custom characters for Baldurs Gate?
Yes! We can create both the large and small pictures for Baldur's Gate which you can load and play with.
9. How does this work?
Once you place your order, I will request a description of your character and place you the in "queue". Generally, there is a queue of 4-5 commissions, so it may take up to two weeks to begin working on your commission. Once I begin working on it, I will send you previews and ask for your feedback. This is your oppurtunity to fine tune the details as we go along. Generally, after the second or third preview, large changes (sex, body type, armor style, etc.) cannot be changed, while small details (sword instead of axe, hair color, etc.) can be changed.
10. Can you render a specific person, weapon, hair stlye, armor, etc??
Generally, we do not model a specific person such as Tom Cruise or Pamela Anderson), nor do we do special armor, clothes, weapons or hair styles. First, there are copyright issues that may come into play, and second, it is much more time consuming than a general portrait. If you are interested in a specific person or personality being rendered, please contact thedragon@dragonsart.com first.
11. What all is included in the packages?
The basic package includes a character render. The character may include basic clothing and equipment and/or weapons. Non-standard or copyrighted equipment is not included. If you don't know if your equipment is standard, please ask. It also includes some basic jewelry, but elaborate and custom jewelry is not included... again, best to ask before you buy a package. In addition, tattoos are not included unless the design is provided by the customer. In the advanced package, you may choose one of the following background: Castle, Inn, Dungeon, Sewer, Forest, Temple, City or Desert. Other backgrounds may be available... please ask if you have something specific in mind. The deluxe package also includes a foe or pet. These must be selected from a list of available options. If you are interested, please contact us. The party portraits basically contain several characters and one large or a few (up to 3) smaller monsters. Pets count as monsters for total number of creatures being requested.
12. How do I get you my character description?
Once I receive the order via paypal or the check clears, in the case of check or money order, I will contact you for the details of your character.
